Make this Your Year to Volunteer

The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968 pushed the city and citizens of Memphis into the spotlight of the social equity discourse. Since, the city has made strides but we still have a long way to go. With the 50th remembrance on April 4th, 2018, the National Civil Rights Museum has posed the question of “Where do we go from here?” For Volunteer Odyssey, that question is a call to action that we wanted to answer with Year to Volunteer.

Year to Volunteer is a year long initiative to engage 10,000 volunteers in 85,000 hours of service, worth more than $2 million dollars of economic impact for the City of Memphis.

Year to Volunteer launches on Thursday, April 5th and details will be announced on Friday, April 6th during the Ribbon Cutting for MLK Reflection Park and will mark its finale with Memphis’ bicentennial celebration in May 2019. The Year to Volunteer initiative is launching in partnership with the City of Memphis and as part of the growing #BringYourSoul movement.

During the Year to Volunteer, we are highlighting monthly volunteer opportunities. You can also record and report your hours through the Year to Volunteer Page. In addition, Volunteer Odyssey is creating a corporate Day of Service on Friday, October 19th and a family Day of Service on Saturday, October 20th. More details on the Days of Service will be available in May 2018.
